This chapter will describe our hands-on seo approach for companies, organizations and professionals who are based in Malaysia, and who focus on the Malaysian (geographical entity) market.
This type of Local or Country based SEO / SEM is of different from GLOBAL SEO campaigns.
Since Malaysia is divided in 13 different states and 3 federal territories we will add them here. Every page will lead to a specific page describing the SEO / SEM strategy for that region, major city, state or federal territory in Malaysia. Consider this an experiment.

(the above grid is based on the information found in WikiPedia on Federal States and Federal Territories.
Major Cities in Malaysia :
You can find the full List of cities in Malaysia on Wikipedia but I think mentioning this would be important on SEO level, because I believe that the internet broadband penetration is still the highest in cities. I hope that this might change soon due the efforts of Digi, Telecom Malaysia, Streamyx, Celcom, P1 Wimax, Maxis and others to provide faster and omni present internet for the people and businesses of Malaysia.
Most SME’s and distrubitors (certainly of physical and tangible goods, but this goes for services) also operate locally, so getting found and listed locally matters.
It is improving (rough observation, I know). I could see that in some projects we are running who market their products to the country of Malaysia. Thanks to a proper and gradual expanding SEO and Online Marketing Plan the customer has more traffic, more inquiries and more agents/reselling their products. Most of transactions are done online, hence leading to a normal operational cost for the back-end team.
Anyways I would be interesting to know how many website are online for companies and organization active in the biggest cities (just look at the location registration of the Sdn Bhd, which would give an indication) and combine it with the number of people that are online in a certain region, city. Then you would have look at the spending in online advertising and this would give you an indication of what is going on. This is all in embrionic stages I believe, but growing. Here is the City list and the total population.
